Buffalo Medical Group Department of Radiation Oncology Earns ACR Accreditation

By Buffalo Medical Group | April 11 2019 | BMG News & Updates

Buffalo Medical Group Radiation Oncology has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Radiation oncology, or radiation therapy, is the careful use of high-energy radiation to treat cancer. A radiation oncologist may use radiation to cure cancer or to relieve a cancer patient’s pain.

“Providing our patients with safe, high-quality care is our highest priority, which is what makes this accreditation so important. Our Radiation Oncology team will continue to provide this level of care for each and every patient to ensure we are delivering upon our promise to not only treat our patients well, but to administer care in the safest way possible, to achieve the best possible outcomes,” says Robert Zielinski, MD, Buffalo Medical Group Associate Medical Director and Oncologist & Hematologist.

The ACR is the nation’s oldest and most widely accepted radiation oncology accrediting body, with over 700 accredited sites, and 30 years of accreditation experience. The ACR seal of accreditation represents the highest level of quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting specific Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards developed by ACR after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Radiation Oncology Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice
with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.

The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services. Founded in 1946, Buffalo Medical Group, P.C., is among the first and largest multi-specialty physician practice groups in New York State. With more than 150 primary care, specialist and sub-specialist physicians – as well as a team of more than 800 nurses, technologists and other health care professionals – BMG records more than 500,000 outpatient visits annually at its main locations in Buffalo, Williamsville and Orchard Park as well as more than 10 satellite sites.
